Introduction to Product Management

A recent Wall Street Journal article highlighted product manager as the new dream job for MBA students. A product manager is the conductor of the orchestra. He/she works cross-functionally with engineering and design to identify new products to build as well as what features to add and remove from existing ones. Product managers interface a great deal with customers to try to understand their needs with the aim of building things that they actually want.

Product management sits at the intersection of business, design, and technology. As such, successful PMs need to learn a variety of skills ranging from wireframing to data analytics. In this course, participants will be exposed to key product management topics, including A/B testing, wireframing, and leading user interviews. The class includes an in-class project where participants will build an MVP for a business idea that they have.

An introduction to what product management is and how the role fits into the technical ecosystem.

Deep Understanding of Analytics and A/B Testing

An understanding of how to analyze product data to optimize decision-making.

Problem Solving Strategies

Practice breaking down complex business problems into smaller, more manageable chunks.

Exposure to Tools

Students will use real-world PM tools in class so that they can hit the ground running during internships and full-time jobs.

Collaborative Environment

Participants will discuss product management topics with other attendees and their Cognitir instructor, as well engage in numerous use case exercises.

No, you do not need any prior programming or data science experience for this course. That being said, if you do have such experiences, they will bring your analytics to next levels as you will be able to more deeply analyze the data for predictive potential.

Will I be able to build my own MVP by the end of the course?

Yes! You will have the chance to think through, design, and build the cheapest and easiest MVP for your idea.


At Cognitir, Neal leads the company's sales, marketing, and strategy initiatives. He also coleads recruiting and coheads product development with his co-founder David.

Outside of Cognitir, Neal runs his own boutique consulting practice. As a consultant, Neal advises executive teams of both large corporations and small and medium enterprises on issues ranging from marketing to financial modeling.

Previously, Neal led training seminars for a top financial training provider and consistently received top reviews from attendees and created two training courses that were used in seminars worldwide. Before his consulting and training careers, Neal was a Teach For America Corps Member and taught high school mathematics in Saint Louis Public Schools (USA). In addition to his education and training careers, Neal was an investment banker at Lazard, JPMorgan, and Houlihan Lokey.

Neal received his MBA from London Business School (UK) and BBA in Finance from the University of Notre Dame (USA). He is also a CFA Charterholder and a Member of the CFA Institute Education Advisory Committee (EAC) Working Body where he helps shape CFA Program Content.
